“Every morning in Africa a gazelle wakes up.

It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed

Every morning a lion wakes up.

It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death.

It doesn’t matter whether you are a lion or a gazelle – when the sun comes up you had better be running.”

I have a race to run

…let us strip off and throw aside every encumbrance (unnecessary weight) and that sin which so readily (deftly and cleverly ) clings to and entangles us, and let us run with patient endurance and steady and active persistence the appointed course of the race that is set before us, looking away [from all that will distract] to Jesus, who is the Leader and the Source of our faith [giving the first incentive for our belief] and is also its finisher [bringing it to maturity and perfection]. Hebrews 12:1b-2a Amplified Bible

The writer of the book of Hebrews makes it very clear, how to run the race of life. We are told first to get rid of the unnecessary stuff in our lives, if we are to have any chance of finishing our race. I would encourage you to go to God, to get an understanding as to what is unnecessary. Know this, a weight is a weight regardless if you know it or not, and the weight of the weights are the impending consequences.

Secondly we are to run with patience. Running the appointed course of the race that is set before us with patient endurance and steady and active persistence is challenging. In the race of life, we are instructed to run this race without really knowing what the course of life is, and it’s not until we began to run the race of life that we get a glimpse. This race can be full of anxiety because you don’t know how long or how short this race is in order to set your pace and control your breathing which is vital.

Lastly, the ultimate objective for the race of life is to run the race persistently focused on the Source of your faith. As believers in Christ, we serve a merciful God, who informs us that winning does not mean coming in first or the race given to the swift, but the true blessing is for those who try to run their race.

So by the Grace of God, stay in the race and finish your course.
